GUWAHATI: The Dhubri District Administration has begun the process of land acquisition for construction of roads to accommodate India’s longest river bridge over the Brahmaputra.
The land acquisition will further help to facilitate the free flow of traffic movement.
The proposed bridge will connect the old town of Dhubri in Assam with the village of Phulbari in Meghalaya. Currently, those who travel across these states either take the Naranarayan bridge which is a huge inconvenience as it is 60 km upstream or, alternatively, row across the river in small boats which again takes about two and a half hours.

A Japanese funding agency has approved a loan for this project as a part of a road infrastructure improvement package after assessing the economic benefit of the big project and the global players in France have also been reached out to for the construction work.
Currently, the longest river bridge in India is at 9.15km, is the Dhola-Sadiya bridge in Assam which became functional in 2017.
