Kivini Shohe And Andrea Kevichusa To Represent Nagaland At Cannes Film Festival

GUWAHATI: In a remarkable achievement for the state of Nagaland, two prominent film personalities, Kivini Shohe and Andrea Kevichusa, have been selected to represent Nagaland at the esteemed Cannes Film Festival.

The festival, scheduled to take place from May 16 to May 27, 2023, is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious events in the global film industry.

As per a report by the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), the duo will join the Nagaland delegation supported by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India. The Department of Information and Public Relations, responsible for films and related matters, has been instrumental in facilitating their participation, as per media reports.

Kivini Shohe, an acclaimed filmmaker from Nagaland, holds a prominent position in the film fraternity. She is recognized as one of the pioneering filmmakers from the region and is a founding member of the Film Association of Nagaland (FAN), a dynamic group comprising film professionals based in Nagaland.

Shohe's exceptional contributions to the industry include serving as the Jury Chairperson for the 14th International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala 2022, as well as being a jury member for the 5th South Asian Film Festival, Kolkata 2022.

Her exceptional talent in filmmaking was recognized when she received the Governor's Award for Arts in 2014. Shohe's award-winning film, "Oh My Soul" (2014), which explores the story of three Naga transgender individuals, has garnered widespread acclaim.

Known for her ability to delve into unconventional narratives, Shohe has directed numerous documentaries, including "Under the Longfuru Sky" (2018) and "The Great Anghs" (2001), shedding light on untold stories from the eastern part of Nagaland. Additionally, she has directed captivating short films such as "Winter Nights Dream" (Nisapa & Nisala) 2003 and "Anishe Flower Maiden" (Anishe Xamunu) 2007. Her most recent work includes the telefilm "Even the Dead Speaks" in 2019.

Joining Shohe is Andrea Kevichusa, an accomplished Indian model and actor hailing from Nagaland. Kevichusa made her acting debut in 2022 with the film "Anek," alongside Ayushmann Khurrana, for which she was honoured with the Filmfare Award for Best Debut (Female) in 2023.

Kevichusa's talent has extended beyond the film industry, as she has collaborated with several renowned fashion designers and notable brands.

Her captivating presence has graced the pages of esteemed magazines such as Vogue India, Elle, and Femina. Furthermore, she has adorned the covers of prestigious publications like Filmfare, Harper's Bazaar, and Grazia.

The selection of Kivini Shohe and Andrea Kevichusa to represent Nagaland at the Cannes Film Festival 2023 is a testament to the immense talent and creative prowess present in the state's film industry.
