In a sensational incident that took place in the city on Monday afternoon, Manvik Surana, a 5 year old student of Kid Veda School at Nalini Bala Devi Path, Christian Basti was kidnapped by unknown persons during school hours.
However, the aggressive efforts of the city police led to the rescue of the child within 10 hours.
Manvik is verbally impaired and hails originally from Nagaon. The family shifted to Guwahati a few months back for Manvik's treatment.
According to reports, the arrested kidnapper is Kabal Mour, alias 'Gullu', who had 2 other accomplices, Rinki Bonia and Dipak Biswas. .
Manvik like regular days came to school at around 10 AM and was reported missing after his parents came to pick him up from school at around 12:30 PM.
Manvik was rescued from a hotel room where he was kept. Preliminary reports suggest that the child was not tortured. It was after the massive media coverage about Manvik’s disappearance that the child was left at the hotel room.
Police sources said that the kidnap was likely to demand a ransom, however they were arrested even before they could make the ransom calls to make their demands.
Hiren Nath addressing the media said, "Today's success is a team work. My officers are very capable and hardworking. CID came to help as soon as we informed them. We will continue interrogation the whole night."
