GUWAHATI: The Khelo India Asmita State Hockey League commenced on Thursday at the Maulana Mohammad Tayabullah Hockey Stadium in Bhetapara, Guwahati. Organised by Assam Hockey in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the tournament aims to promote grassroots hockey development in the state.

Assam Hockey Secretary and Senior Representative of the Hockey India Executive Board, Tapan Das, stated that eight teams each in the junior and sub-junior categories are participating in the competition. The districts represented in the tournament are Naharkatia, Dhemaji, Bongaigaon, Makum, Nagaon, Silchar, Bhergaon, and Tezpur.
The teams have been divided into two groups, with league-stage matches determining the semi-finalists. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout rounds. The junior final is scheduled for March 23, while the sub-junior final will take place on March 26.
The opening ceremony was attended by DK Moitral, Director of SAI Guwahati Centre, and Pradeep Timung, Director of Sports, Government of Assam, as the chief guests.
