Kaziranga National Park Records Highest Tourist Footfall

GUWAHATI: The Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve is celebrating an unprecedented surge in tourist footfall this season, reaching an all-time high, media reports stated. 

The park has reportedly welcomed nearly 1.8 lakh visitors, comprising both foreign and domestic tourists, resulting in an estimated revenue of around ₹4.58 crore.

Sonali Ghosh, Director of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, while speaking to the media, highlighted the inclusion of new tourism areas like Biswanath and Bura Chapori, contributing to the increased popularity of the national park. The season commenced on October 15 last year, and the numbers have been consistently rising.

In October, 17,662 tourists visited the park, followed by 40,242 in November, 65,000 in December, and 52,000 in January this year. Revenue figures reveal earnings of ₹1.45 crore in December 2023 and ₹1.21 crore in January 2024, reports further stated.

River tourism has emerged as a significant contributor to the park's revenue this time. Ghosh reportedly emphasised the popularity of river tourism and its positive impact on overall earnings. 

Known for its breathtaking landscapes and rich biodiversity, the park has witnessed an increased influx of tourists, particularly during the holiday season. The success of recent initiatives like Kazir Ronghangpi Tales, Cycling in Kohora, Panpur Jeep Safari & Boat Safari in Biswanath Wildlife Division has further solidified Kaziranga's position as a must-visit destination, media reports stated.

As per media reports, the ongoing tourist year 2023-24, approximately 1,79,573 visitors have already explored the park, contributing an estimated revenue of around ₹4,58,77,639.
