Karbi Bhawan Inaugurated By Assam And Meghalaya CMs In Shillong

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in collaboration with his Meghalaya counterpart, Conrad Sangma, unveiled the Karbi Hemtun (Karbi Bhawan) in Shillong, constructed at a cost of ₹21.5 crore by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council.

The joint ceremony also included the laying of the foundation stone for a 100-bedded Karbi students' hostel cum commercial complex, estimated at ₹22 crore.

The Karbi Hemtun, featuring a basement, ground floor, and three additional floors, is equipped with amenities such as conference halls, dormitories for both boys and girls, a restaurant, suite rooms, a gym, and more. It has the capacity to accommodate up to 50 guests at any given time.

CM Sarma commended the leadership of Tuliram Ronghang, Chief Executive of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, for his instrumental role in the region's new-found peace and development. Acknowledging his gratitude to his Meghalaya counterpart, Sangma, for his involvement in the Karbi Hemtun project's completion in Shillong, Sarma expressed his optimism for a diplomatic and rational resolution to the long-standing border issues between Assam and Meghalaya.
