Kamrup (Metro) DC, Commissioner Of Police Offices To Be Ready By Durga Puja

 

Construction of integrated directorate and the Guwahati Municipal Corporation office will be completed by beginning of next year

If all goes well the new offices of Kamrup (Metro) district commissioner and the commissioner of police will be ready and functional by Durga Puja this year. The rest of the government offices under construction will be completed by the beginning of 2026.

A source in Public Works Department (PWD) – Buildings, talking to GPlus said, “Construction work of many government offices with a budget of around Rs. 1203 crore is ongoing among which the district commissioner’s office at Rupnagar and commissioner of police office at Khanapara will be completed by Durga Puja this year,” adding that the department is trying to complete the construction of both the offices by September. 

The office of the commissioner of police is being constructed with a budget of  ₹95 crore on three bighas of land at Khanapara. 

The district commissioner’s office of Kamrup Metropolitan district, which has now been temporarily shifted to Hengrabari from Kachari, is being constructed spending ₹58 crore at Rupnagar on seven bighas of land. 

The DC office was temporarily shifted to Hengerabari and the office of the police commissionerate was moved to the building of the Lower Assam Commissioner at Panbazar after the original office buildings, located along the south bank of the Brahmaputra river, were demolished for the government’s Brahamputra riverfront project.

There will be two blocs in the DC office building. The DC office and related offices will be in the first bloc, while the district office of various departments, including education and health, will be placed in the second block

It needs to be mentioned that an integrated directorate complex is being constructed to accommodate all the director offices of major departments at Betkuchi.  

The source said that ₹471.40 crore is the estimated budget to construct the integrated directorate complex for which 33 bighas of land has been allotted behind the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre. 

Similarly, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) office is being constructed at Betkuchi near the integrated directorate complex for a budget of ₹25 crore.

The construction of integrated directorate and GMC office will be completed by March next year, said the PWD source. 

The Police Reserve of the Guwahati Police Commissionerate is also being constructed on a budget of ₹544.54 crore on seven bighas of land located at Fancy Bazar and Panbazar. The construction of the police reserve is also likely to be completed by the beginning of 2026.
