GUWAHATI: The transport department launched an operation against city buses at MG Road on February 13.
A team comprising Commissioner and Secretary, Transport Department Dr KK Dwivedi, Commissioner Adil Khan and other department officials, took a city bus ride in order to get a first-hand experience of the problems being faced by daily commuters.
"Bus conductors were taking fares without issuing tickets to the passengers. Seats reserved for senior citizens and specially-abled persons were occupied by other passengers," a source in the transport department said.
According to reports around 40 buses which have violated the newly imposed rules, meanwhile, on-the-spot fine of approximately Rs 32,000 was also imposed for route violation for not issuing tickets to passengers and keeping the doors open while plying.
