Justice is served? NDFB (R) chief Ranjan Daimary Imprisoned for Life in 2008 Assam Serial Bombings

GUWAHATI: A special court in Guwahati today sentenced National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) chief Ranjan Daimary and imprisoned him for life in the serial bomb blasts in Assam that claimed 88 lives and left around 500 injured on October 30, 2008.

Apart from Daimary, nine others were also sentenced to life imprisonment. 

Earlier on Tuesday, TD Goswami, Special Public Prosecutor, told The Indian Express, “There were two chargesheets — one for 19 accused and another for three others. Seven accused are absconding — of which, it has learnt unofficially, at least two are no more. We have produced 650 witnesses in the case and 687 documentary evidences.”

NS Yadav, CBI’s investigating officer of the case told the media that they demanded death penalty for the culprits.

It is to be mentioned that Daimary was on interim bail since June 2013. However, on January 28 his bail plea was rejected and he was arrested with the charges of the spine chilling serial bomb blasts in Assam.

The serial blasts which was triggered by the NDFB on October 30, 2008 in Guwahati, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon and Barpeta, killed 88 people and left more than 500 injured.
