Junmoni Rabha Accident Case: Assam CM Urges Police Restraint

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has instructed the state police department to refrain from making unnecessary comments regarding the death case of Morikolong sub-inspector Junmoni Rabha.

The chief minister emphasised the importance of a neutral investigation conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Addressing the media in Guwahati on Tuesday CM Sarma announced that until the CBI takes charge of Junmoni Rabha's case, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Assam, will handle the investigation.

"The case has already been handed over to the CBI. It is now the CBI's responsibility to uncover the truth. Anyone who is found guilty during the investigation will be sent to jail. We will maintain neutrality as the Assam government has entrusted the case to the CBI. I have also instructed the Assam police to avoid making unnecessary statements about Junmoni Rabha's death case while the CBI investigation is underway," he said.

The chief minister assured the public that the counterfeit gold smuggling racket would be eradicated from the state. CM Sarma affirmed that those buying or selling fake gold would be considered criminals.

"A person with good intentions would never buy fake gold. It is usually those with black money who engage in such transactions. We will put an end to this illicit activity in Assam," he added.
