Joyasree Goswami Mahanta Wins Sahitya Akademi Award

GUWAHATI: Assamese novelist Joyasree Goswami Mahanta and Bodo writer Phukan Ch. Basumatary have won the Sahitya Akademi Awards 2019.

Joyasree was awarded for her novel 'Chanakya' and Basumatary for 'Akhai Athumniphrai' (Poetry) in Bodo language respectively.

Speaking to media Joyasree said, “I am not as happy as I should be” with the news of winning the Sahitya Akademi Award. 

She also promised to distribute the prize money among the families of those killed during the anti-citizenship law protests in Assam.

The annual Sahitya Akademi Awards in 23 languages, the Sahitya Akademi shared a press release on December 18.

On the other hand, senior Congress leader and writer, Shashi Tharoor has also won the award for his book 'An Era of Darkness'in english.
