Jairam Ramesh Expresses Concern over ‘Human Rights Violation’ Inside Silchar Detention Camp

GUWAHATI: Former union minister and senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has expressed concern over ‘gross violation of human rights’ in the Silchar detention centre.

He took to his twitter account and expressed a concern over the situation in the centres, "Visited a detention centre in Silchar just now. 48 genuine Indian citizens not having 'proper' papers.17 from Bangladesh who strayed in and want to go back but are not bring accepted, and 6 from Myanmar who don't want to go back. A very depressing and sobering experience..."
According to reports, over 70 detainees are in the detention centre.

Ramesh along with party leaders including Jitendra Singh, Manikram Thakur, Mukul Wasnik, Md. Ali Khan, APCC president Ripun Bora and All India Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev visited a detention centre inside the Silchar Central Jail, on Thursday, November 07.

Further, he spoke to the detainees and took note of their conditions inside the camp.

According to reports, over 70 detainees are in the detention centre.
