ISRO Successfully Completes De-Docking Of SpaDeX Satellites

GUWAHATI: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Thursday, March 13, completed the de-docking of its Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX) satellites. This development has been expected to facilitate future missions, including human spaceflight, lunar exploration, and the construction of India’s own space station.

“Congrats, team ISRO,” Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced the success on X. “It is heartening for every Indian. SPADEX satellites accomplished the unbelievable De-Docking…”

He also highlighted that the development would aid ambitious projects like the Bharatiya Antriksha Station, Chandrayaan 4, and Gaganyaan.

The SpaDeX mission was launched on December 30, 2024, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota aboard the PSLV C60 rocket. The mission carried two small satellites—SDX01 (Chaser) and SDX02 (Target)—alongside 24 other payloads.

Mastering in-space docking technology is essential for conducting multi-launch missions, sample return operations from the Moon, and assembling the Bharatiya Antriksha Station. With this success, India has become the fourth country in the world to achieve space docking capabilities, after Russia, China, and the US.
