GUWAHATI: In a dangerous incident that occurred on Tuesday afternoon, an iron shuttering fell from the underside of an under-construction flyover Maligaon injuring two persons, one is critically injured.
The incident took place near the Pragjyotish Cinema Hall.
Local police talking to G Plus said, “Both persons are from Nalbari and are admitted to Swagat Hospital in Maligaon.” Till the filing of this report, no case was registered by the police.
Eyewitnesses informed that the iron shuttering abruptly fell from the underside of the flyover and injured two persons.
It may be mentioned that this is not the first instance of an accident caused beneath the under-construction flyover in Maligaon.
Earlier in May, a concrete cluster fell on a moving car and damaged the windshield of a vehicle.
In another incident, during the welding works that were going on in the flyover, a part of the tarpaulin used in the construction caught fire from a spark and was seen burning while cars passed under it.
The Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also reached the spot and investigated the matter. The Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner and Guwahati Commissioner of Police briefed the Chief Minister about the incident.
Sources in the Public Works Department said that the PWD will soon order an investigation into the matter and the negligence because of which the incident occurred will be dealt with strictly.
