GUWAHATI: IPS Officer Hemant Lohia was found murdered at his official residence in Jammu and Kashmir late on Monday night. As per news reports, Lohia's domestic help, the main accused in the case who was on the run has now been apprehended by the police. The 1992-batch IPS officer was posted as the Director General (Prisons) in Jammu and Kashmir.
Lohia originally hails from Guwahati's Athgaon area. Guwahati-based prominent doctor Navanil Barua talking to G Plus said that Lohia did his MBA from Gauhati University. Lohia's family also has a timber business in Athgaon area of Guwahati.
"In the initial investigation into the incident of Lohia's death, it has come to fore that one domestic helper Yasir Ahmed, resident of Ramban is the main accused," Mukesh Singh, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Jammu earlier told ANI.
"In a major manhunt launched by J&K police throughout the night, the accused involved in the murder case of DG Prison, Hemant Lohia has been apprehended. Interrogation of the accused has started," ADGP Mukesh Singh told ANI.
Further, the murder weapon has been recovered and a diary of the accused has also been found, which reflects his depressed mental state, Mukesh Singh told ANI.
