GUWAHATI: The massive accident in Dergaon today morning resulting in the death of over 10 people has prompted responses from Assam's top officials, including Transport Minister Parimal Suklabaidya and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Transport Minister Suklabaidya expressed his anguish over the loss of lives and informed through a post on X that top police, road safety, and National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) officials have been instructed to visit the site and assess the situation.
He revealed that one side of the national highway was blocked, and traffic diversion measures were implemented.
"Deeply shocked to learn about the tragic road accident in Balijan today morning which has taken 10 precious lives & injured many! My deepest condolences to the families of the bereaved. I pray to almighty for the speedy recovery of the injured ones,” Suklabaidya stated in the tweet.
He further mentioned that a team comprising the Special DG of Assam Police, IG of Law & Order, Commissioner of Transport Department, State Project Director of Lead Agency on Road Safety, and Executive Director of NHIDCL is on its way to conduct a thorough inquiry into the incident.
The local representative, Assam cabinet minister, and Golaghat Lok Sabha constituency representative Ajanta Neog also expressed her condolences.
Neog directed the district commissioner to provide assistance to the grieving families.
Taking to X, the Golaghat MLA stated, "Deeply saddened by the tragic bus accident at Dergaon. My prayers are for the eternal solace of those departed. I offer my condolences to the bereaved families and my prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured."
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma joined in expressing sorrow over the tragic loss of lives.
In a statement released by his office, Chief Minister Sarma offered condolences to the bereaved families and assured that the local administration is providing all necessary support to the injured.
"HCM Dr @himantabiswa has expressed his deep anguish at the horrific bus accident in Dergaon and offers his condolences to the bereaved families. The local administration is providing all necessary support to the injured in this difficult hour. Prayers for their swift recovery." the post read.
