Indigenous population organises Gauhati candidate Upamanyu Hazarika's campaign

GUWAHATI: Independent candidate for Guwahati constituency and senior advocate Upamanyu Hazarika campaigned to Barkhetri Constituency on Monday, April 1 addressing several gatherings at Adabari Panchayat, Doulasal and Kamarkuchi.

The meetings in Barkheti were organized spontaneously by the local indigenous population for whom the preservation of their identity and that of future generations is the foremost issue in the elections.

Addressing the media, Hazarika said, “This is in tune to connect to the grassroots and approach every household through an intensive grassroots campaign. Even though Adabari area is flood-prone due to a broken embankment and the economy is entirely agriculture dependent, but the primary issue uppermost amongst the people is the issue of identity and protection of indigenous rights. A large section of those who are involved in the Assam agitation came for the meeting pressing their support.”

Earlier, as per campaign schedule, Hazarika addressed meetings in Jugdal, Sonapur Bazar and New Market in Sonapur area and thereafter at Paltan Bazar in Guwahati on Sunday.
