GUWAHATI: Two terrorists were killed by the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla during a heavy exchange of fire on Wednesday, April 23. The operation was announced after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, mostly tourists.

The Indian Army stated that the encounter began when two to three terrorists attempted to infiltrate through the general area of Sarjeevan in Uri Nala, located in the Baramulla district. Following the elimination of two terrorists and the foiling of the infiltration attempt, a large quantity of weapons, ammunition, and other war-like stores were also recovered during the operation.

The infiltration bid was orchestrated following the Pahalgam terror attack on Tuesday, April 22, at the Baisaran meadow, a tourist site known as 'mini Switzerland'. The Resistance Front, a proxy of the banned Pakistan-based group Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the assault, which has led to nationwide condemnation and heightened security measures.

Condemning the Pahalgam attack in a statement on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured the nation that those responsible would be brought to justice. He extended condolences to the victims' families and reiterated the government’s commitment to combating terrorism.

Security forces continue to remain on high alert across Jammu and Kashmir as operations intensify in the wake of recent events.
