This has been mentioned in the ministry's operational guidelines for the COVID-19 vaccination drive, which had also seconded the earlier decision to roll out vaccines on a priority basis.

The vaccine will initially be administered to healthcare workers, frontline workers, persons above 50 years of age, and to persons younger than 50 years of age with associated comorbidities based on the evolving pandemic situation.

National media had reported that the age of an individual will be calculated based on the cut-off date of January 1, 2021. Anyone born on or before January 1, 1971, will fall under the category to be vaccinated on priority.

The remaining population will be vaccinated based on the disease epidemiology and vaccine availability after the priority categories have been completed.
