IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall Over Assam And Other NE States From May 17-21

 

GUWAHATI: Heavy showers with thunderstorms have been predicted over Assam and different parts of Northeast India, from May 17 to May 21.

An official press release from Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) states that the trough from North Bihar to Central Chhattisgarh has extended up to 3.1 km above mean sea level.

This has made moisture incursion due to strong low-level Southerly or Southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal to Northeast India very likely during this period.

Under its influence Fairly Widespread to Widespread rainfall activity with heavy to very heavy rainfall or thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds is expected over the northeast region during the next five days.

Assam and Meghalaya are expected to witness light to moderate rainfall in most places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall.

The states are also expected to witness thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds of 30-40 kmph at isolated places.

Arunachal Pradesh is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall in many places.

Places such as Assam and Meghalaya are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy rainfall.

Also, thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds of almost (30-40 kph) are expected in this region at isolated places, stated the IMD release.

Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are also expected to receive light to moderate rainfall in different areas with chances of thunderstorms and lightning in isolated places.
