Meanwhile, the competition in Group B has intensified following Afghanistan’s dramatic eight-run victory over England on Wednesday, February 26, which officially knocked the defending champions out of the semi-final race.
Afghanistan, now with two points, remains in contention for a semi-final spot alongside Australia and South Africa, both of whom have three points. With the group stage nearing its conclusion, the battle for the remaining two semi-final slots is heating up.
In Group A, New Zealand demonstrated dominance by overcoming both host nation Pakistan and Bangladesh, while India took a similar path, registering a six-wicket win against Bangladesh before comfortably defeating Pakistan by the same margin in Dubai. These results sealed the fate of Pakistan and Bangladesh, eliminating them from the tournament.
As the knockout stage approaches, all eyes are on Group B, where Afghanistan, Australia, and South Africa are still in the running. The final two semi-finalists will be determined based on the upcoming matches, with net run rate potentially playing a crucial role in case of tied points.
The semi-finals are set to take place on March 4 and 5, followed by the grand final on March 9.
