GUWAHATI: In a recent reply to an RTI query asking for details about the ‘tukde-tukde gang’, the Union Home Ministry said that it has no information about the gang.
Saket Gokhale, senior journalist and activist who has been vocal about his stand against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), had filed an RTI asking for details about the ‘tukde-tukde gang’- a phrase which has been used repeatedly by union home minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in their speeches.
In his RTI, Gokhale had seeked to know how the "tukde-tukde" gang has been identified and if there is any SOP for dealing with it. He had further asked if the minister’s remarks were based on police/agency inputs and under which law is he going to "punish" them.
The reply which Gokhale shared on Twitter mentioned, “Ministry of Home Affairs has no information concerning tukde-tukde gang.”
Gokhale took to Twitter on Monday and wrote: “I’m now writing to the Election Commission to take cognizance of this. Home Minister Amit Shah must explain why he used this term in a rally or he should apologize publicly for lying to the people & misleading them.”
