Holiday Declared In Assam For Karam Puja On Sept 14

 

GUWAHATI: A paid holiday has been declared across Assam on the occasion of Karam Puja on September 14.

The decision was reportedly taken by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at the new Chief Minister's Secretariat in Dibrugarh on September 6. CM Sarma took several key decisions including the transfer of 19 District Commissioners.

Karam Puja is the most important agricultural festival of the tea tribe communities of Assam. This is celebrated usually on Bhado Ekadashi, on the eleventh day of the bright full moon (Purnima) of the month of Bhado (August–September).
