GUWAHATI: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Himanta Biswa Sarma criticised the usage of Arabic by All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) Supremo Badruddin Ajmal in one of their public meetings.

Himanta Biswa Sarma further called out to the "intellectuals" for their silence on the issue. "If we do a printing mistake and a Bengali language book reaches the Brahmaputra and vice versa, the intellectuals criticise us. But now Ajmal is using Arabic and Urdu languages and no one is protesting it," said Sarma during his recent speech at Sankardev Kalakshetra, Guwahati.

The speech was made after a membership drive had surfaced for the BJP ahead of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) polls. The drive includes enlisting the memberships of Mihineswar Basumatary, President UBPO along with 21 state committee members, district presidents, and over 700 members of the unit.

Sarma further called for the unity of Bodo and Assamese people. "When Bodo and Assamese signboards will be together, Ajmal's politics will end that day," said Himanta Biswa Sarma.
