Hima's name in Arjuna Awards list?

GUWAHATI: Dhing Express, Hima Das’s name has reportedly made it to the probable list of Arjuna Awardees 2018. 

As per information, her name remains to be approved by Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore as there is a clause that states: To be eligible for the award, a sportsperson should have had not only good performance consistently for the previous four years at the international level but also should have shown qualities of leadership, sportsmanship and a sense of discipline.

Arjuna awards are given to sportspersons for outstanding achievements in the field of sports at the international level.

18-year-old Hima, won one gold and two silver medals at the recently held Asian Games and previously, a gold at the women’s 400m final race in the IAAF World Under-20 Athletics Championships in Tampere, Finland.

The Arjuna awards are to be presented on 25th September, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan by President, Ram Nath Kovind. If she is selected, Hima, will be the 5th sportsperson from Assam to receive the award.

Sportspersons from Assam who have been conferred with Arjuna Awards include: Bhogeswar Baruah (1966) – Athletics; Monalisa Barua Mehta (1987) – Table Tennis; Jayanta Talukdar (2007) – Archery and Shiv Thapa (2016) — Boxing.
