Highlights of PM Modi's Independence Day Speech

On the occasion of 74th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unfurled the national flag at the ramparts of the historic Red Fort in Delhi.

Delivering his public speech on the occasion, the PM expressed his unhappiness on the absence of children who usually fill the grounds of the Red Fort every Independence Day. 

Applauding the COVID warriors, he said, "In these times of COVID, Corona warriors have lived the mantra of 'Seva Parmo Dharma' and served the people of India. I express my gratitude to them."

Here are the highlights of the speech-

-Amid the pandemic, 130 crore Indians have taken up 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' as a  'mantra'.

-The mindset of free India should be 'vocal for local'. 

-Many big companies are turning towards India and Indians should move forward with the pledge of ‘Make for World’ along with ‘Make in India."

-There was a record 18% increase in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) last year.

-Citing education as the key to  making of an 'aatmanirbhar', modern, new and prosperous India, PM Modi stated that the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 will instill new confindence.

-Providing equal opportunities for self-employment & employment to women.

-"Today neighbour is not just the one with whom we share border but also those with whom our heart stays connected, where there is harmony in relations. I'm happy that India has further strengthened its relations with all countries in extended neighbourhood," said Modi.

-In the next 1000 days, Lakshadweep will also be connected to submarine optical fiber cable. Other projects will be undertaken in the 1300 islands of the country.

-Lastly, he said, "Ram Janambhoomi issue that prevailed for centuries, has been resolved peacefully. The conduct of people of the country has been unprecedented and is an inspiration for the future."
