GUWAHATI: The two new foot over-bridges equipped with lifts and escalators in the Dispur area of GS Road in Guwahati have been inaugurated.
The bridges located at Ganeshguri (near Apollo Hospital) and Christian Basti (near post office) were inaugurated by Assam PWD minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma on February 1, Monday.
The bridges will be operational 24X7 along with the four escalators and two lifts. The lifts will be preferred for senior citizens and patients. Another important aspect of the foot-over bridges is the ramp on which wheelchairs can be taken for specially-abled citizens.
A security guard has been hired amid concerns of security and gathering of anti-social elements.
A CCTV camera has also been installed for added security purposes.
"Glad to have inaugurated 2 foot over bridges on GS Road, Ghy ~ Christian Basti & ABC point, built at Rs 10.06 cr & Rs 9.88 cr respectively. Features include automated elevator and ramp for divyang, 2-way escalators, customized perforated screen cladding and special illumination," Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted on the inauguration.
