Talking to GPlus, Mukesh Kumar Singh, a daily commuter while stuck in traffic at Machkhowa said, “The elevated corridor was supposed to reduce traffic, but it feels like nothing has changed. Every morning, I have to leave earlier than usual, yet I still get stuck here. It is really frustrating,” he said, adding that the situation worsens during peak hours.

Another resident from Zoo Road, caught in the gridlock, pointed to the Brahmaputra Carnival as a contributing factor.

Talking to GPlus, she said, “Ever since the carnival started, traffic has increased significantly. I have been stuck here for 30 minutes, and there’s an ambulance in the queue too. It's worrying how even emergency vehicles are unable to move."

Caught in the gridlock at Bharalumukh, a medical representative rushing to an appointment talking to GPlus said, “I have been stuck here for over 40 minutes. It is not just about being late; I have critical medicines to deliver. To make it worse, I saw an ambulance stuck ahead in the traffic. This is not just an inconvenience, it’s a serious issue.”

When contacted, a senior official from the Guwahati Traffic Police talking to GPlus said, “Yes, the Brahmaputra Carnival has increased the number of vehicles in the area as people are visiting in large numbers. However, the bigger issue is the rise in the number of vehicles in the city. Guwahati has experienced rapid urbanization, but our road infrastructure has not kept pace."
