City authorities managed to reduce traffic congestion during the time of the festivities by aptly maneuvering the traffic through diversional routes, but that has changed once all roads have been opened to allow direct commutation once again.

Kahilipara has witnessed a rapid increase in traffic congestion, as residents are frustrated with the ongoing Lalganesh to Cycle Factory flyover construction which began on July 15. Similarly, Garchuk suffers from extreme congestion during office timings, while Hatigaon Road mostly experiences traffic on the route that comes from the National Highway’s direction.

Speaking to G Plus, Manabjyoti Gogoi, a resident of Christian Basti expressed his concerns regarding the excess traffic in the area. “Since the primary Ganeshguri route experiences a lot of traffic when people come and go from office, large vehicles attempt to take shortcuts through the Dispur College Road, which clogs up the entire area leading up to GMCH.”

He also mentioned that the upsurge in traffic reaches its highest from 4 PM to 7 PM.

Congestion on the main roads connecting Guwahati has subsequently led to congestion in bylanes as well, as most commuters are attempting to cut traffic timings by diverting their vehicles into smaller, local routes.

With ongoing construction activities plaguing the city’s landscapes, the situation looks bleak for Guwahati’s residents at the moment.
