GUWAHATI: Magh Bihu is just around the corner on January 14 and 15, and preparations have started in Guwahati. People are building Mejis and Bhelaghars around various places in the city.

Bhelaghar is a makeshift shelter for the night. It is a communal feast hall composed of thatch, bamboo, straws, dried leaves, and other natural materials. It is an object of visual pleasure on Uruka or the night before Bihu. Meji are bonfires which are built up and burnt in the fields and people pray to their ancestral gods for blessings.
