Guwahatians Throng Fancy Bazar Hanuman Mandir for Hanuman Jayanti, Chased away by Police Eventually

GUWAHATI: Amidst the 21-day lock-down where the entire nation is maintaining social distancing and avoiding gatherings, reports have come from Fancy Bazar area that people in their hundreds had thronged the Hanuman Mandir at Galla Patty on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti today.

According to media reports, devotees were seen gathering in large numbers ignoring the social cause and responsibility.

Devotees were seen in Fancy Bazar's Galla Patty area in close proximity to each other and offering prayers. The gathering was eventually dispersed by the police.

It is to be mentioned that the Kamrup (M) administration along the state govt has urged all citizens to remain indoors and avoid social gatherings in order to arrest the spread the deadly coronavirus.

Earlier, the administration had closed down all religious institutions and requested the authorities to lock down the gates.

Hanuman Jayanti 2020 is being celebrated today and it is believed that Lord Hanuman, also known as Maruti, Pawanputra, Kesari Nandan and Bajrang Bali, was born on this day.

According to Hindu beliefs, Lord Hanuman is the symbol of energy and strength, and people worship him to ward off all evils.

Hanuman Jayanti is observed during the month of Chaitra on full moon day, which usually falls in the month of April.
