Guwahati: Zoo Road Flyover To Be Inaugurated During Festive Season

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday that the Assam government is preparing to inaugurate the 2.3-kilometre flyover on RG Baruah Road, popularly known as Zoo Road, either during Durga Puja or on Diwali. This announcement comes a day before the inauguration of another newly constructed flyover in Maligaon which is to be inaugurated on August 30.

The ongoing construction of the flyover, stretching from near Zoo Tiniali to Sundarpur on RG Baruah Road, with an extended arm towards Geetanagar on Mother Teresa Road, was initially estimated to be completed by August 31, with an estimated cost of approximately ₹250 crore.

He further outlined that the national highway expansion project, aimed at converting a four-lane highway to a six-lane one in Guwahati, is projected to conclude by April next year. Additionally, flyovers at various points along the national highway will be completed by March.

Underlining the significance of addressing traffic congestion, the Chief Minister pointed out that previous limitations, such as funding shortages hindered progress.
