Guwahati Youth Receives GYTI Award 2023 For Blood Plasma Extraction Device

GUWAHATI: Uddipta Singha, a young scholar from Guwahati, has been honoured with the Gandhian Young Technological Innovation (GYTI) Award 2023 for his groundbreaking research on a “Novel Method of Plasma Extraction from Blood Droplet.” The award was presented at a special ceremony held at the India International Centre in New Delhi on November 5.

Singha developed an innovative device that extracts plasma from micro-volumes of blood using a sphere-on-flat, lifted Hele-Shaw cell. The device successfully isolates plasma from just 80 microlitres of diluted blood, achieving an average yield rate of 55%.

Currently pursuing his PhD at IIT Mumbai, Uddipta graduated from NIT Silchar and completed his MTech at IIT Guwahati. He is the son of Mahua Bhaumik Singha and Biswajit Singha.
