GUWAHATI: A young woman was found dead after allegedly taking her own life by hanging on July 3.
The incident took place at her residence, located at Gandhi Mandap, Sarania Hills, under the jurisdiction of Paltan Bazaar Police Station.
Following an investigation, it was revealed that the victim had been subjected to mental harassment by an individual Amit Medhi, a resident of the South Sarania area of the city.
As per police reports, the accused had allegedly been blackmailing the victim by sharing obscene photos and videos through social media for an extended period.
Additionally, an FIR has also been filed by the mother of the deceased, at the Paltan Bazaar Police Station, citing the relentless harassment inflicted upon her daughter, as per reports.
According to a police official, the mother discovered a suicide note written by the daughter and immediately alerted the authorities.
The note was swiftly seized by the assigned investigating officer and the accused, Amit Medhi was apprehended.
Investigations are underway as further details are awaited.
