Guwahati Woman Becomes First Referee From Assam At International Cricket Event

 

GUWAHATI: In a historic moment for Assam, Rajni Basnet Kalita, a resident of Guwahati's Boragaon area, has etched her name in sports history by becoming the first referee from the state to officiate at an international cricket event. 

The occasion unfolded on December 28 when she took charge as the match referee for the One Day International (ODI) series opener between India Women and Australia Women at Mumbai's iconic Wankhede Stadium.

Kalita is the wife of renowned international pitch curator Mukut Kalita. Her prior role as one of the match referees during the inaugural Women's Premier League (WPL) showcased her expertise, as per media reports.

In the ongoing ODI clash, India set a formidable target of 282 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Jemimah Rodrigues played a stellar role, contributing 82 runs off 77 deliveries, including seven boundaries.

Yastika Bhatia's solid innings of 49 runs laid a strong foundation for the team. Notably, Pooja Vastrakar, as a tailender, played a pivotal role by scoring 62 runs off 46 balls, adorned with seven fours and two sixes.
