GUWAHATI: A shocking incident unfolded in Ganeshguri when a 22-year-old woman, identified as Barika Marak from Panikhaiti, was beaten up by an individual demanding commission payment for giving her a job.
The incident occurred near the Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha flyover around 4 PM.
Marak, employed as a helper in Rehabari, found herself at the centre of this horrifying assault.
The accused, identified as 51-year-old Daflin Gyrwa from Ri-Bhoi district in Meghalaya, allegedly confronted Marak over an unpaid commission amount of ₹5000. The dispute quickly escalated into a violent altercation.
The victim was allegedly assaulted by the woman as she helped her get a job as domestic help and did not pay her commission for it.
Eyewitnesses told G Plus that Gyrwa attempted to forcibly snatch Marak's phone before slapping her. However, the assault did not go unnoticed, and members of the public quickly surrounded the scene, preventing the accused from escaping.
Suspicions arose about this being a case of human trafficking. However, speaking to G Plus, Annapurna Chetri, an official from Dispur Police Station, clarified that, "it is confirmed that it is not a case of human trafficking but she was assaulted."
Further investigation is underway.
