Guwahati: Two Arrested In Ganeshguri Mob Lynching Case 

 

GUWAHATI: Two people were arrested in the mob lynching case that took place in the Ganeshguri area in Guwahati on February 5.

A youth became the victim of a brutal assault by a group of individuals in Guwahati's Ganeshguri locality. What started as a minor scuffle escalated into a fatal assault, leaving the man with severe head injuries. Despite providing medical attention, the youth succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday. 

The victim has been identified as Ikramul Hussain.

On January 7, talking to GPlus, a police official from the Dispur Police Station mentioned, "We received reports of the incident around 12 PM, and the case is under investigation. The body had been sent to GMCH for post-mortem examination." 

A subsequent update on February 6, 2024, revealed that the victim, was assaulted on February 5, 2024, around 10 PM in front of Vishal Mega Mart, Ganeshguri. Rumi Begum, his mother, filed a complaint leading to the registration of FIR no. 103/2024. 

On February 7, 2024, a Medical Legal Certificate (MLC) from the hospital confirmed Ikramul's death on February 6, 2024, at around 9:40 PM. An Unnatural Death (UD) case, no. 24, was registered at Dispur PS on February 7, 2024.

The investigation brought to light that Ikramul had a quarrel with Jitu Baishya, a biryani shop owner, and Sanjib Barman, Jitu's friend. 

Upon investigation,  Dispur police apprehended the two main suspects, Jitu Baishya and Sanjib Barman who were hiding in Balijar in Nalbari district who confessed to the crime.
