Guwahati: Traffic Violations Surge Underneath Dispur-Super Market Flyover

GUWAHATI: In a concerning development, the Dispur-Super Market flyover area in Guwahati has witnessed a significant increase in traffic rule violations, raising alarms for commuters and authorities alike.

The situation has escalated as several commuters have been observed flouting traffic rules by driving on the wrong side of the road near the MLA hostel gate in the Dispur area. This reckless behaviour endangers the safety of both motorists and pedestrians.

Following recent changes in the turnabouts following the completion of the flyover, motorists have resorted to breaking traffic rules in an attempt to shorten their U-turn distances. Such actions not only disrupt traffic flow but also pose a grave danger to all road users.

Furthermore, the presence of Shrimanta Shankar Academy in the vicinity exacerbates the situation as parents, in a rush to save time and distance, resort to driving on the wrong side of the road with two-wheelers. This disregard for road safety poses a threat to the safety of students and other commuters in the area.

Additionally, the traffic signal underneath the flyover has become a hotspot for speeding vehicles, further compounding the safety concerns for motorists and passengers.

The Last Gate extended arm U-turn has also come under scrutiny as commuters frequently defy traffic regulations by taking the wrong side towards the supermarket bus stop. This consistent negligence creates hazardous conditions for all road users in this area.

While speaking to G Plus, a Dispur traffic official said, "The commuters often neglect the rules in that area. We often charge penalties for such violations but, they still don't pay heed. Especially during school hours such incidents happen more."

However, the area doesn't have any assigned traffic officials to take care of the situation.

"We cannot curb this wrong side fiasco immediately, but, we're discussing about it and will come up with few options. As of now, due to shortage of man power we are not able to deploy officials there. But, we are planning to relocate few of them", further added the official.

As Dispur witnesses such violations, the authority is still in need of proper vigilance and harsher penalties.
