Guwahati: Traffic Guidelines Announced For Ambubachi Mela 2024

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati police have announced traffic restrictions during the Ambubachi Mela 2024. The festival is scheduled to take place from June 22 to June 26, 2024. The restrictions will be in effect from 5 AM on June 22 until midnight on June 25.

Following are the key traffic restrictions imposed:

- No vehicle, except those with authorized car passes issued by the District Administration, will be allowed to enter from Maa Kamakhya Foot Hill towards Maa Kamakhya Temple. Emergency vehicles like fire tenders, ambulances, vehicles carrying life-saving drugs, oxygen cylinders, and school buses are exempt from this restriction.

- Only vehicles with car passes issued by the District Administration and ferry vehicles can travel from Pandu Cabin Tiniali to Bongshi Bagan. No vehicle will be permitted to cross Bongshi Bagan towards Maa Kamakhya Temple.

- Vehicles coming from Jalukbari will use the service lane of Nilachal Flyover, dropping pilgrims opposite Gate No. 3 of Railway HQ, then taking a U-turn under the flyover to designated parking at Adabari bus stand and Boripara field.

- Vehicles from Bharalumukh will use the service lane of Nilachal Flyover, dropping pilgrims opposite Swagat Hospital (Railway Gate No. 4), and proceeding to the designated parking areas.

- ASTC buses, city buses, and private vehicles will use the Nilachal Flyover from Jatukbari Rotary to Machkhowa, avoiding the service lane.

- City buses from Jalukbari will drop passengers at Biswakarma Mandir, and those from Bharalumukh will drop passengers at Boripara field.

- Devotees must park two-wheelers, LMVs, and HMVs at Adabari Bus Stand or Boripara Field.

- No roadside parking will be allowed from Adabari Tiniali to Pandu Port on Pandu Port road and from Maligaon Chariali to Pandu Port on Borbazar Road.

- Commercial goods vehicles of four wheels and above are restricted from Jalukbari Rotary to Machkhowa on DG Road, MG Road, and AT Road.

- Commercial goods vehicles of three wheels and above and slow-moving commercial vehicles/carts are restricted on the same routes and from Adabari Tiniali to Pandu Port.

- No long-distance or inter-district buses, including ASTC buses, will be allowed on DG Road, MG Road, and AT Road. Buses from Lower Assam will be stopped and parked at Adabari Bus Stand.

- Buses carrying pilgrims from Kamakhya Railway Junction will use PNGB Road via DG Road to Adabari Tiniali and proceed to temporary rest camps at Pandu Port.

- Pilgrims from rest camps will use the service lane of Nilachal Flyover.

- No heavy vehicles will be allowed from National Highway 27 towards Gosala via Tetelia.

These measures are put in place to ensure a smooth and safe passage for emergency vehicles and to minimise inconvenience to the public during the Ambubachi Mela.
