GUWAHATI: Despite the recent inauguration of the Nilachal Flyover, residents and commuters in the Bharalumukh area of Guwahati are continuing to grapple with a surge in traffic congestion during peak hours.
Long queues of vehicles have become a common sight, causing significant inconvenience to those travelling through the area.
While speaking to G Plus, a resident of the Bharalumukh area stated, “Traffic congestion here is terrible, especially during the hours when schools get over and buses move through this road."
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a Public Works Department (PWD) official revealed to G Plus that even though plans for a new flyover connecting Bharalumukh and Santipur have been announced, this proposed flyover will span over the existing railway line, necessitating permission from Indian Railways. Consequently, the project is still in its initial stages.
"Once the bridge connecting Guwahati to North Guwahati is completed, the junction near Bharalumukh is expected to transform into a Y-shaped traffic junction", the official further stated.
The precise implications for traffic movement in the area will become clearer as ongoing projects near completion. Discussions are underway among local police officials in the Bharalumukh and Santipur areas to alleviate the current congestion woes faced by commuters.
