Guwahati Tops With 208 Medals At First Assam Youth Olympics 2022

 

GUWAHATI: Guwahati has bagged the highest number of medals among all the districts at the first Assam Youth Olympics 2022 with an unconquerable 208 medals. Sportspersons representing Guwahati won 69 Gold medals, 73 Silver medals and 66 Bronze medals in the games that ended on Wednesday, July 27.

As of filing of this report Sivasagar has made it to the second spot with 25 Gold medals, 21 Silver medals and 24 Bronze Medals and Dibrugarh at third position with 23 Gold medals, 19 Silver medals and 26 Bronze medals. 

Kamrup District stood fourth with 23 Gold medals, 17 Silver medals and 20 Bronze medals.

Guwahati sportspersons put up a spectacular show in Squash, Archery, Table Tennis, Badminton, Yoga, Boxing, Fencing, Judo, Wushu, Basketball, Swimming events, Gymnastics, Tang-Soo-Do and Karate.
Guwahati has also fared well in athletics events such as a 100m male, 100 m female, 200m girls, Shortput Male, 800m female, Triple Jump Male, 200 m male, Long Jump Boys, Long Jump girls, 1500m girls, 400m race girls etc.

Sportspersons from Guwahati won all medals in both Rowing and Shooting events. Both the boys and girls teams playing basketball representing Guwahati have bagged Gold medals at the Assam Youth Olympics. The girls’ team from Guwahati also bagged Gold in Volleyball. The Kho Kho Girls’ and Boys’ Team representing Guwahati also bagged a Silver medal.

Guwahati’s cyclists won Gold medals and Silver medals in four of the five cycling events. Guwahatians also fared well in Karate with one medal in 16 of the 21 Karate events. Guwahati also won three gold, three silver and three bronze medals out of the total four lawn tennis events.

The Boys Hockey Team from Guwahati bagged a silver medal. The Boys Dragon Boat team representing Guwahati also fared well and bagged a Silver in the Dragon Boat event held at Dighalipukhuri.
The Assam Youth Olympics observed the closing ceremony today, dated July 27. Around 4200 players  from 35 districts took part in the six-day championship and competed in 32 sports at 17 different locations across Guwahati.
