Guwahati to have 4,000 CCTV cameras under Smart City Project

GUWAHATI: In a view to boost the security and surveillance mechanism of Guwahati, the Govt of Assam has approved of installing 4,000 CCTV cameras to continuously monitor the pulse of Guwahati city.

Of the 4,000 cameras, around 800 would be dedicated for monitoring vehicular traffic, especially road mishaps and hit-and-run cases.

Further, the installation process of the CCTV cameras would be done under the supervision of Assam Police as it is directly related to safety and security of the citizens.

Presently, Guwahati has only 350 CCTV cameras installed, including those maintained by private parties.

It is to be mentioned that under the Smart City Project, the total proposed cost is estimated at Rs 2,296 crore, including area-based development cost of Rs 1,579 crore.
