GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) inaugurated two major waste management projects at Swachhta Kshetra Boragaon on Wednesday, October 2.

The projects include the construction of a 150 TPD Compost and Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) Plant, valued at ₹35 crore, and a 20 KLD Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP) at a cost of ₹3.99 crore. These facilities aim to improve Guwahati’s capacity for processing municipal solid and liquid waste.
The Compost and RDF Plant, constructed by Geron Engineering Pvt. Ltd., began on May 8, 2022 and completed a successful trial run on May 17, 2024. It will operate in two shifts, processing 300 TPD of waste to produce compost and RDF.
On the other hand, to improve management of faecal sludge more efficiently, the GMC has partnered with Banka BioLoo Limited for the construction of a 20 KLD Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant. This project, which started on October 26, 2022, is based on a Design-Build-Operate-Transfer model for five years, with a successful trial run conducted on July 17, 2024.
The event, led by Mayor Mrigen Sarania, was attended by Deputy Mayor Smita Roy, Commissioner M.N. Dahal, and local residents.
