The decision, announced by the District Commissioner on Monday, September 23, was made after several students suffered from heat-related illnesses, including dehydration and fainting.
However, Guwahati enjoyed some respite from the heat of the past few days with the heavens opening up soon after the notification for the closure of schools was issued; consequently, several areas soon were waterlogged.
The order was issued by the District Elementary Education Officer under the Axom Sarba Siksha Abhiyan Mission following reports from school authorities. This measure is aimed at protecting the health and safety of students amid rising temperatures.
As per the order issued, the schools are expected to reopen after the weather conditions improve, and parents are advised to take extra precautions for their children's health during this period.
