GUWAHATI: The District Transport Officer of Kamrup (M) Gautam Das has asked the schools to pay the taxes of their buses that are due. Over 1,000 buses and other vehicles used by schools in Guwahati have arrear tax of around Rs 10 crore that is due. These buses are under the scanner of the Transport Department and notices have been sent.
Under Mission Sarkhar that was launched on February 1 by the Transport Department in Assam, the officials have been able to recover over rupees one crore from vehicle owners in Guwahati. The DTO also seized a number of vehicles during the drive and issued demand notice to the owners who are yet to pay the taxes.
A meeting was organised at the DTO Kamrup Metro where officials of transport department and a number of representatives from various schools discussed the tax matter.
Gautam Das urged the schools to pay the dues by February 28.
On the other hand, school authorities have requested the DTO to give them relief from the taxes as due to the pandemic the buses have not been utilised since March 2020. Also, the representatives have suggested for an easy installment process to pay the taxes.
