GUWAHATI: In a routine procedure, the Guwahati Ropeway is scheduled to temporarily close its doors to visitors from September 26 to October 5, 2023. The decision to halt operations during this period was confirmed by a senior official from the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).

This temporary closure is for annual maintenance and mock drills.

Speaking to G Plus, a senior official from Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) said, "The ropeway will remain closed from September 26 to October 5. "

"Like every year, there will be annual maintenance work and rescue mock drill on those days," the official further added.

However, the Ropeway will resume its service from October 6.

The Guwahati Ropeway was inaugurated in August 2020. The Guwahati-North Guwahati route is the longest ropeway distance over a river in the country. The cable car takes about seven minutes to take passengers across the river from North Guwahati to Guwahati and the total length of the ropeway is 2 Km.

The lower terminal of the ropeway is at Kachari Ghat in Panbazar, while the upper terminal is at Rajadwar village behind the Dol Govinda Temple in North Guwahati.
