GUWAHATI: In a recent incident, a student was manhandled by a ride-sharing app rider in Guwahati on Wednesday.
As per official reports, the student was travelling from Beharbari to Bhangagarh when this incident occurred.
Speaking to G Plus, the student said, “I booked the ride at 1:50 PM and it arrived at around 2:30 PM. I waited for so long because cancelling the ride would have charged me extra money. After starting the trip, the rider was continuously speaking over the phone and was too slow with it."
"After requesting the rider to hurry up, he misbehaved with me saying - You should be thankful that I'm taking you in this congested route in this hot weather," mentioned the student.
Initially, the entire trip fare that showed up on the application was ₹120.
After getting off the bike, the student paid the fare and went inside the building.
He was then chased by the rider and assaulted physically.
The misunderstanding was evoked as the rider demanded ₹180 which was denied.
"It is sad because no one came for my help. The rider snatched my spectacles and people around them instigated him to take them away. He pulled my sling bag and pushed me from behind. But, unfortunately, not a single person came to my rescue. Even the security personnel avoided interfering," the student also added.
After the incident, the student then rushed to Dispur Police Station to file an FIR, but, as it was not their area of authority they didn't file the report.
Later, the student was accompanied by a team of law students from Arunachal Union to Bhangagarh Police Station.
Enlightening about the case, a Bhangagarh Police official shared with G Plus that there was a misunderstanding about the fare, which stirred up the incident. A report was filed after speaking to both parties. Further decisions will be addressed in the court.
Further details are awaited.
