GUWAHATI: Guwahati police addressed recent allegations regarding the city police's role in preventing MLA Akhil Gogoi from leaving the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

The controversy has stirred public interest following a news report suggesting that the police's actions impeded Gogoi's attendance at the Assembly.
MLA Akhil Gogoi expressed frustration, stating, “I had started to feel better and was prepared to attend the Assembly today. Despite this, the police have surrounded the press and denied me permission to leave GMCH.”
In his response, Commissioner of Police, Diganta Barah, clarified that this morning, while carrying out their duties, the city police questioned a suspicious individual near the Assembly complex and confiscated a banner from him. The person in question, identified as Jamser Ali from Bijni Police Station, Chirang district, was found with a banner containing objectionable content. He has been detained for further questioning, and the investigation is ongoing.
Addressing the claim about Gogoi’s inability to leave GMCH, Commissioner Barah stated that the police had no involvement in the decision regarding the MLA’s discharge. Gogoi was admitted to GMCH for health reasons, as reported by the media. The Commissioner stated that the city police had no role in the hospital discharge process and that decisions about patient discharge are solely the responsibility of medical professionals.
