Guwahati Police Ban Rallies And Processions To Ease Traffic Woes

GUWAHATI: The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration) issued a prohibitory order restricting all forms of public gatherings such as processions, rallies, marathons, walkathons and similar events within Guwahati city limits. The order was issued and signed on April 9 and will remain in force until further notice.

The order, which has taken immediate effect, aims to ensure a smoother traffic flow and prevent disruptions to daily commutes.

Authorities observed that such events often lead to road blockages, causing inconvenience to commuters and affecting emergency services.

“Such events create crowding and congestion, and may delay emergency services, thereby impacting public safety,” the order noted.

The police have urged the public to cooperate with the new measures, stressing that the restrictions are necessary to maintain order and ensure the city runs efficiently. Any violation of the order will attract legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

Individuals or groups who wish to challenge the directive can file a written objection before the Deputy Commissioner of Police for its review or cancellation.
