GUWAHATI: The Guwahati police have arrested a person named Sanu Mullah for possession of illegal cough syrups. Mullah was caught during a raid conducted by the Crime Branch, Guwahati and officials from the Bhangagarh Police Station in front of the office of Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) in Bhangagarh.
The raid was conducted on the basis of secret information and the 28-year-old culprit got caught. Mullah is a resident of Santipur, Singimari in Dhubri district.
Police have also seized his vehicle, a Maruti Alto (bearing registration number AS01 KC 3445) where 35 nos of illegal cough syrup bottles were found. Further investigation is on.
Moreover, police said that Mullah was earlier arrested by the Crime branch and Paltanbazar Police Station staff in connection with a different case in the year 2019 vide case no 364/2019 U/S _ 22 (A) NDPS act (Dated 12.4.2019) vide CS No 113/19.
The illegal supply of drugs in Guwahati has boosted in the past couple of years as per reports. There have been several instances related to the trading of heroin in the city. Police have apprehended many in connection with drugs cases including one woman, who was recently caught with 72 packets of suspected heroin.
